First Church Family:

I pray that you are enjoying the end of summer. Though of course time moves on, this summer has seemed to move most quickly. Teachers and school staff members are already on the job, and local public school children are in class as of Monday, August 28. Our prayers are with them.

For the first time, earlier this year, we made the decision to combine services across the summer at 10:00am. That of course did several things: allow members of both regular services to enjoy fellowship and worship together; allow us to

conclude worship by 11:00am so that individuals and families could enjoy a longer day with family members and friends; and also allow musicians in both services to have some time off from their volunteering and work.

Most feedback has been positive. We will consider doing the same thing next summer. Please remember that we will be back to our regular 9:00am modern and 11:00am traditional worship schedule on Sunday, September 10.

Please look for details of our church’s fall schedule in this newsletter and online. One of the highlights of the new schedule is that our Wednesday afternoon children’s program is changing.

Named “Groovin’” our Jon Beal and Jaret Carter will be providing African drum and percussion training; and also

ukelele and guitar training for children from third grade through eighth grade. If you have family or friends who are those ages, please make sure they get registered for this program.

Over the next weeks we will continue our worship around the theme of God’s grace.

Happy September to you and yours! May you remain aware of God’s presence and blessings,

Dave Melton

Senior Pastor
