Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

First Church Family:
It is the day before Thanksgiving, and I have to tell you that my mornings are busy. I rise early and get started on my day – with chores, emails and texts, planning for worship, sermon preparation, and much more.
This morning, I took time to pause to remember the things for which I’m thankful. I finally had to make myself stop, because the task proved to be much lengthier than I had imagined.
There was the comfortable bed in which I sleep (and that I didn’t want to get out of on this cold morning), the heat to turn up so that I would be warm, the coffee pot (that doesn’t make great coffee, but at least gets me started with some caffeine – Ha!)
There’s my devotional book, written by Oswald Chambers, which reminds me every day that it’s God, and not I, who is the center of my universe, and the way too many clothes that I own, that allow me to layer, so that I will be both warm and comfortable, no matter where I go today.
Of course, there are my precious family and wonderful friends, with whom I will get to spend some time over the holidays.
And I haven’t even begun to cite the incredible endeavors in which I am privileged to partner with Almighty God – including being used by Him to help provide full Thanksgiving meals to some 150 deserving, impoverished families in our county.
Let that sink in for a moment… doesn’t being a part of a church that just provided almost 1,000 people with bountiful holiday meals in the name of our Savior make your celebration of Thanksgiving more fulfilling? It certainly does mine!
I am so very grateful for a congregation that wants to both take care of our own, and also, share the love of Christ with those around us.
May you experience a wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving holiday!

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Dave
