Fellowship

First Church Family:
I’m writing this just after I’ve had the opportunity to spend a few minutes with our Fabric Friends quilting group who meet at our church for a couple of hours each week. The fellowship those ladies enjoy, while they are busy cutting and quilting fabric, sewing, and/or doing other kinds of needlework, is amazing!
I walk down the hall with a cup of coffee in my hand almost every week to see the beautiful artwork they are creating, (or that’s what I tell them.) But equally as important to me is to just “be” with them for a few minutes – because their joy is contagious!
Every week when I return to my office, I am re-energized, because of having a short visit with them.
The same thing happened when our group of thirteen men, along with Tara and Patrick, prepared for the Last Supper Tableau on Palm Sunday. Those individuals will always have a special bond because of the way we worked, prayed, and laughed together preparing to share the Gospel with you, the Sunday before Easter.
To me, it feels like we don’t get together as people used to, to just share life. And there are reasons for that. Sometimes our schedules are so packed with required things: responsibilities, meetings, and important duties that even when we are together with other people, our minds and hearts aren’t really with them.
I know that you have had the experience (while eating out in a restaurant) of seeing a family gathered around a table, with multiple cell phones out and no in-person conversation occurring. I always think about how sad that is; but then am convicted myself because of the hurried, over-scheduled way I too live my life.
At First Church, we are trying to be more cognizant of the fact that regular moments to experience life together are needed. One of the things we are doing is scheduling a monthly Fellowship Lunch after worship in our Christian Life Center.
This Sunday is one of those events. Please consider being with us for that. Our hostess, Kay Lanier, is preparing one of her special creations (this week: Southwest Chicken Casserole, Mexican Salsa, Broccoli Cornbread, and dessert) for us this Sunday. The food will be ready for us at noon.
We are trying to make it as easy as possible for you. There is no need for you to make a reservation, and no charge will be made for the meal. There will be a basket for donations, should you be interested in doing that.
I hope to see you in church on Sunday.

Blessings,

Pastor Dave
