The Reverend Dr. David S. Melton is the Senior Pastor of Providence United Methodist Church. He has served numerous large churches in western North Carolina, including most recently: Memorial UMC, Thomasville; First UMC, Waynesville; and West Market Street UMC in Greensboro. In 2014, West Market experienced its largest net membership growth in more than 30 years. Dave is an elder in full connection in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Dave is a graduate of Davidson College; received a Masters of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School; and received the degree of Doctor of Divinity from High Point University.

Dave has served in numerous capacities in the community: as a trustee at Greensboro College, on the boards of the Metro YMCA and Greensboro Urban Ministries, and with Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army.

His passion for global missions is evidenced by his work in establishing ongoing foreign missions in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Bulgaria and Kenya.
Dave has served as President of the Steering Committee of the Reynolds LEAD Academy, a professional leadership program involving the enhancement of senior pastors in the Western North Carolina Conference in the areas of leadership, evangelism and discipleship.

Over the past years he has studied with the Academy in Korea and Hawaii, as well as numerous states from Illinois to Florida. In 2015, Dave led LEAD Academy pastors as they attended a worldwide church conference in London, England, before exploring our Methodist roots in that country on a Wesley tour.
