A Prayer for Calm

A Prayer for Calm

First Church Family:

The warmth of spring is finally here! Gardeners can put annual plants in the ground and not worry about the threat of frost (though that pronouncement probably will encourage the weather patterns to change – Ha!)

May is second only to December in its busyness. There are concerts, exams, preschool and school endings, high school and college graduations, weddings…the list goes on and on.

When there is something almost every night of the week, it’s hard not to get caught up in all of that busyness, and feel frazzled. In light of that, I offer a prayer for calm:

Loving Heavenly Father,
I thank You for my life
and praise You for Your abundant mercy and grace.
Too, I thank You for Your faithfulness,
even though I am not always faithful to You.
LORD, remove everything that is causing anxiety and sorrow in my life
so that I might be able to experience an intimate relationship with You this day.
Guide my steps so that I may be open to the peace that only You can give –
in my relationships, in my work, and my rest.
Make me keenly aware of Your loving Holy Spirit
that precedes me in everything I do,
so that I may be able to live a life that glorifies You.
This I pray in the name of Jesus,
my LORD, and Shepherd, who alone can comfort my spirit.
Amen.

May you experience the presence and power of God on this day!
