August Message

August Message

Dear First Methodist Family,

In Psalm 40, David writes:

I waited patiently for the Lord;

he turned to me and heard my cry.

He set my feet on a rock

and gave me a firm place to stand.

He put a new song in my mouth,

a hymn of praise to our God.

Blessed is the one

who trusts in the Lord.

For the past weeks, we’ve remembered the promises of God, and how they bless our lives. God’s promises are true. God hears our cries, lifts us up, and puts a new song of praise in our mouths.

Summer is coming to a close. And there are major plans for the next six weeks. Vacation Bible School will run August 9 – 12, in the mornings. Please invite young ones to join us for that.

We are hoping that our newly hired Robbins Preschool staff will be able to join us for at least part of VBS week, so if you have young ones registered among our new 2021 Robbins students, that would be a good time for them to be introduced to their new teachers.

Our preschool is full for the coming year, with 18 children registered for the 2021-2022 school year, and additional children on a waiting list. The first day for students is September 7. We will have an open house before that date.

At the end of August, I will be away on a trip with Educational Opportunities. Our Tara Hatton will offer the sermon on August 29, and our Marable Southall-Vess will preach September 5, the day I return.

Then, on Sunday, September 19, we will observe “Back to Church Sunday,” joining thousands of churches nationwide in welcoming our congregation back after vacations and summer adventures. On that Sunday, we will enjoy fellowship and a covered dish luncheon following the worship services.

I will share more exciting plans for October and beyond in our next newsletter.

Blessings on you, as we move through the end of summer.
